The Arabic word ‘Islam’ means ‘submission’, and is derived from a word meaning ‘peace’. As such, the religion of Islam teaches that in order to achieve true peace of mind and surety of heart, one must submit to God and live according to His Divinely revealed Law. A non-Muslim becomes a Muslim when he/she believes in his/her heart: "There is no God but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger". Hence, belief in the Unity and Oneness of God and that Muhammad is His messenger makes one a Muslim at heart. It is a fact that Islam is growing rapidly in the West. Across Europe individuals from different backgrounds are reverting to Islam. And each new convert has a story to tell. In this episode of "Currents of Life" we will meet a German woman who has embraced Islam. Her name is Jasmin Rastetter and she will share her unique experience and her path towards Islam. Jasmin was born and raised a Christian but ultimately God Almighty had other plans for her. During her teens she was a party girl desperately trying to drink away her pain and trauma. But a few important events reshaped her life. She found Islam to give her the peace of mind and solace she was looking for. Upon becoming a Muslim she dedicated her time to studying about her new religion. She now teaches a class for Muslim children and hopes to open a nursing school for Muslim children one day.
